AMD Opteron 6200, with 16 Core Processors
AMD Opteron 6200, with 16 Core Processors – Despite long been a conversation and had suffered a momentary delay, finally on Monday (13.11.2011), AMD launched a new processor chip that has a core number as many as 16 cores.
The number of cores is making the first in the world that runs on X86 microarchitecture (32-bit). AMD named his line 16 core Opteron 6200 series.
This processor is built using 32nm fabrication and is only intended to market a web server and data center that is targeted to the needs of the database, cloud servers, and virtualization that require high performance. This chip could be a solution for companies that want to build a supercomputer for a multi-complex needs.
The family consists of Opteron 6200 HE 6262 series, 6272, 6274, 6276 and 6282 SE, which runs at clock speeds between 1.6 GHz and 2.6 GHz. The speed is not too high as a desktop processor, but offers the power of the number of processors to process data. The processors will be marketed with a price range between U.S. $ 523 to U.S. $ 1019.
John Fruehe as AMD’s product marketing director said, “Opteron chips code-named Interlagos 6200 has a faster performance of about 25 to 30 percent over its predecessor Opteron 6100 (Magny-Cours) which has 12 number of cores.”
In addition to better performance, also claimed to be better in managing the memory bandwidth and more efficient power consumption of each of its core. “Linux and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 will be able to maximally utilize the entire core and more virtual machines are created to handle all transactions,” continued Fruehe.
Looks like Opteron 6200 is AMD’s flagship processor server in the face of the dominance of the new Intel will launch its newest server processor, Intel Xeon E5 which is scheduled to be released around early 2012.
I think talking about AMD Opteron 6200, with 16 Core Processors had enough. Hopefully this article can help you.
